Bank of China Macau Branch, SLM (Portuguese: Banco da China, Sucursal de Macau) was established on June 21, 1950, referred to as the Bank of China in Macau, formerly known as the Bank of Nantong in Macau, and is now the state-owned commercial bank of the People's Republic of China. The branch of Bank of China in Macau and one of the largest commercial banks in Macau. Together with Atlantic Bank, it is responsible for the issuance of patacas and the functions of the cashier's agent bank for the public treasury of the Macau government.
Bank of China has independently registered a new company in Macau under the name of Bank of China (Macau) joint stock company (Portuguese: Banco da China (Macau), S.A., English: Bank of China (Macau) Limited). The banking business between Bank of China Macau Branch and individual customers and the property and liabilities involved will all be transferred to Bank of China (Macau) on November 20, 2022, while the company's customer-related business will still be provided by Bank of China Macau Branch.
History
On June 21, 1950, Macau Nantong Silver was established in Ximao, handling general banking business such as remittances and simple loans. Chairperson Ke Lin, General Manager Ke Zhengping.
Nantong Silver was restructured into a commercial bank in 1974 in accordance with the provisions of the Macao law "Macao Banking Law", and was issued a banking license by the Macao and Portuguese government, so it was renamed Banco Nan Tung Macau (Portuguese: Banco Nan Tung). In the same year, it moved to No. 1 Xinma Road for business. In 1982, Nantong Bank and the Chinese banking industry formed a clearing center, which became the central clearing bank of Macao bills and also assumed the responsibility of the clearing bank of Hong Kong dollar bills.
In 1983, Nantong Bank joined the Bank of China Group. On September 1, 1985, Zhuhai Nan Tung Bank Ltd. (Macao) was established in Zhuhai City. It was the branch of Nantong Bank in the city and the first bank opened by a Hong Kong and Macao regional bank in Zhuhai City. On January 1, 1987, Bank of China acquired Nantong Bank and changed its name to "Bank of China Macau Branch", becoming the ninth overseas branch of Bank of China.
In 1992, the head office of Bank of China Macau Branch was moved out of Xinma Road to Bank of China Building on Dr. Soalis Road. On October 16, 1995, it became the second note-issuing bank of the Macao government after Atlantic Bank; on April 28, 2000, Bank of China Macau Branch signed a contract with the Macao SAR government to become one of the cashier's agent banks of the Macao government's public treasury. On September 17 of the same year, it was selected by the People's Bank of China as the Macau personal RMB business clearing bank; and from November to provide customers with comprehensive RMB business services.
In January 2001, it provided online banking services to bank customers; in November 2003, it established a wealth management center. In August of the following year, due to the implementation of the shareholding system by the parent company Bank of China, Bank of China Macau Branch changed its business registration to "Bank of China joint stock company Macau Branch", and the abbreviation is still "Bank of China Macau Branch". In 2006, Morgan Stanley acquired Zhuhai Nantong Bank. On January 3, 2008, it launched a mobile phone banking service with Macau Telecom - Zhida Mobile Banking Service.
On November 21, 2022, Bank of China invested and established a wholly-owned subsidiary "Bank of China (Macau) " in the Macao Special Administrative Region to officially open for business. Before the opening, various upgrades and adjustments will be carried out. During the period, mobile banking, QR code payment, BOC e-net, bank card withdrawal and credit card swiping services will be suspended.
Banknotes

Bank of China became the second note-issuing bank in Macau on October 16, 1995, and began to issue patacas banknotes; and then, in response to Macau's circulation, Bank of China issued banknotes for three consecutive years in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2008, respectively. The proportion of banknotes issued and another note-issuing bank, Atlantic Bank, accounted for 50% of the patacas banknotes in circulation.
All patacas banknotes issued by Bank of China have the Macau Branch Building printed on the back. On the other hand, Bank of China Macau Branch Building is printed on the back of the MOP 50 and MOP 100 banknotes issued by Atlantic Bank in 1992 and the MOP 20 banknotes issued in 1999.
Established since the Nantong Macau silver number, the bank headquarters is located at 100 Xin Ma Road for business; the following year moved to 1J and K Xin Ma Road; and in 1961 made another relocation to 1L Xin Ma Road for continued operation.

The headquarters of Bank of China Macau Branch is now located in the Bank of China Building, Dr. Soalis Avenue; part of the former site of Lee Siu Secondary School. In 1986, after Lixiao Middle School moved out, the building was built at the southeastern tip of the area and designed by the Hong Kong Palatina Architectural and Structural Engineering Company. The building was completed in May 1992, with a height of 163 meters and a total of 38 floors. It was the tallest building in Macau until the completion of the Macau Sightseeing Tower. The outer wall of the building is paved with red granite and silver glass curtain walls, and it looks like a rocket.
Sub-branch
Currently, in addition to the headquarters of the Macau branch, the bank has 32 sub-branches in Macau; 23 of them are located on the Macau Peninsula, 3 are located in Taipa, 3 are located in Cotai City, 1 is located in Coloane, 1 is located in Macau University of Science and Technology, and 1 is located in Macau University Convergence. On the other hand, the bank has wealth management centers in the North District of the Macau Peninsula (Guanzha), Dynasty, and Melco Shadow Exchange in Cotai City.
Mobile Banking
BOC Macau Mobile Banking (English: BOC Macau App) is an all-round, multi-angle and diversified smart bank launched by Bank of China Macau Branch. The Apps app launches a number of services to the market, including BOC Smart Payment, mobile phone transfer, life payment, e-money, e-government, stock investment, wealth management insurance and online number pickup.
BOC Pay joined the Macau Monetary Authority's aggregate payment method program in February 2021, upgrading its QR code payment to Simple Pay. On October 06, 2021, the cross-bank cardless withdrawal service was launched. On August 11, 2023, it was upgraded again on the basis of Juyi, and this time the extended function Juyi + (English: Simple Pay +) ride code was added.
Mobile Transfer On December 6, 2021, it joined the inter-bank transfer service launched by the Macau Monetary Authority.
