Malaysia will send officials to Washington D.C. as part of its quiet diplomacy approach, aiming to open dialogue on U.S. trade measures, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says in a speech at Asean investment conference, after U.S. announced plans to impose a 24% tariff on Malaysian exports. "There may be limited room to revisit the underlying intent, but there is still scope for adjusting the policy's implementation," he says. Malaysia will adapt as it always has, accelerating its trade diversification strategy, he adds. While staying committed to maintaining strong ties with the U.S., Anwar says he will take all necessary steps to protect the Malaysia's economic interests, including engaging proactively with the U.S., as well as strengthening ties with trading partners in the EU, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
