由“United World Chinese Commercial Bank”与“Cathay Commercial Bank”合并后更名。两银行皆为Cathay Financial Holdings之子公司，2003年10月27日进行合并，以UWCCB为存续银行，Cathay Bank为消灭银行。名称变更为Cathay United Bank，金融代号延续使用UWCCB的013。2007年1月1日再以Cathay United Bank为存续银行，合并Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank。
Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank
1947年，台中市中区合作社信用部成立。
1971年6月，台中市中区合作社信用部改组为保证责任台中市第七信用合作社。
1997年9月1日，台中七信改制，更名为Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank Co., Ltd.。
1997年12月，Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank概括承受新竹市第六信用合作社。
1998年7月，Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank概括承受彰化市第二信用合作社。
Cathay Commercial Bank
1971年6月，First Trust and Investment Co., Ltd.（简称First Trust、TFIT）创立。
1998年11月16日，First Trust改制，更名为Huitong Commercial Bank Co., Ltd.（简称Huitong Bank）。
2002年4月22日，Huitong Bank加入Cathay Financial Holdings。
2002年7月3日，Huitong Bank更名为Cathay Commercial Bank Co., Ltd.（简称Cathay Bank）。
United World Chinese Commercial Bank
1971年9月，第4届世华金融联谊会结合海外17个国家及地区之华侨领袖、及台北市银行商业同业公会所属17家会员银行，各出资50%成立UWCCB筹备处。
1975年1月4日，United World Chinese Commercial Bank Co., Ltd.（简称UWCCB）创立。
1975年5月20日，UWCCB正式开业。
1991年，UWCCB股票于台湾证券交易所公开上市。
1995年4月17日，UWCCB与**Overseas Chinese Trust and Investment Co., Ltd.**合并，UWCCB为存续公司。
2002年12月18日，UWCCB加入Cathay Financial Holdings。
Cathay United Bank
2003年10月27日，Cathay Commercial Bank与United World Chinese Commercial Bank合并，更名为Cathay United Bank。UWCCB Foundation随之更名为“Cathay United Bank Cultural and Charity Foundation”。
2007年1月1日，Cathay United Bank合并Seventh Credit Cooperative Bank。
2007年12月29日，概括承受Chung Lien Trust and Investment Co., Ltd.（简称Chung Lien Trust）特定资产、负债及营业。
2009年，设立新加坡分行。
2010年，取消UWCCB股票上市。
2012年4月30日，与Western Union间之汇款业务合约于该月29日到期，终止Western Union业务。
2012年7月经金管会核准投资柬埔寨Singapore Banking Corporation Limited（SBC）70%股权，复于2013年9月增加持股30%，成为100%持股子行，并于2014年1月将SBC更名为Cathay United Bank (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.。
2013年8月，Cathay Financial Holdings启用三道渐层绿色的大树商标与黑色的新标准字，Cathay United Bank配合启用同式商标与标准字。
2015年3月，董事会通过签署赤道原则，正式导入赤道原则的贷放管理机制，成为台湾首家赤道银行。
2015年10月，菲律宾代表人办事处升格为菲律宾马尼拉分行。
2018年9月，中国子行开幕。
2019年2月，郭新政涉嫌以假造录音档影射Cathay United Bank庄秀珠副总配合罗淑蕾要求漏盖章，庄副总及Cathay United Bank已进行提告。
2021年1月，缅甸仰光代表人办事处升格为缅甸仰光分行。
2021年8月，Cathay United Bank控郭新政等人的妨碍名誉，由台北地方法院判处无罪。
