Dutch Household Consumption Highest Since 2023
Household consumption in the Netherlands rose by 2.1% year-on-year in February 2025 from a downwardly revised 0.7% increase in the previous month.
This marked the strongest growth since October 2023, as spending on goods accelerated (3.9% vs 0.5% in January).
Among households’ goods, spending increased at a faster pace for durable consumer goods (3.1% vs 0.6% in January), particularly for clothing, shoes and electrical equipment.
Additionally, consumption rebounded sharply for other goods (9.3% vs -1.8%), mainly energy due to colder weather compared to last year.
However, spending on food, beverages, and tobacco (0.7% vs 2.5%) saw slower growth.
Meanwhile, service consumption eased to 0.7% from 0.9% in February.
