As Of December 2022, The Bank's Total Asset Value Was Approximately UGX: 2.42 Trillion (approximately $623.467 Million) And Shareholders' Equity Was UGX: 250 Billion (approximately $65 Million). As Of December 31, 2022, DTBUL Was The 7th Largest Commercial Bank In Uganda In Terms Of Deposits. It Was Also The 8th Largest Commercial Bank In The Country In Terms Of Assets. At That Time, It Served Approximately 160,000 Bank Customers.
History
The Bank's History Dates Back To 1945, When It Operated Under The Name Diamond Jubilee Investment Trust (DJIT) And Was Headquartered In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, With Branches In Mombasa, Kenya, And Kampala, Uganda. Subsidiaries Were Later Opened In Nairobi And Kisumu, Kenya. The Company Started As A Community-based Financial Institution Group Dedicated To Providing Credit To The Ismaili Communities In East Africa And Mobilizing Their Savings. In 1965, DJIT Was Divided Into Three Entities, Located In Kenya, Tanzania, And Uganda.
In 1968, Following Rapid Economic Growth In Post-independence Uganda, Diamond Trust Properties Uganda Limited Was Established. In 1972, Diamond Trust (Uganda) Limited (DTU) Began Operating As A Non-bank Financial Institution Group. Between 1972 And The Early 1990s, DTU Was Largely Moribund Due To Political Instability.
In 1995, The Institution Was Recapitalized With The Participation Of The Aga Khan Fund For Economic Development And Diamond Trust Bank (Kenya) Limited. In 1997, The Bank Became A Full-service Commercial Bank And Was Renamed Diamond Trust Bank (Uganda) Limited.
