Taiwan Cooperative Bank (Financial Institution Group Code: 006), Referred To As TCB, Is The Main Subsidiary Of Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holding Co., Ltd. It Is One Of The Large Commercial Banks And Traditional Eight Public Stock Banks In Taiwan. Its Official Share Ratio Is Second Only To The Purely State-run Bank Of Taiwan And Taiwan Land Bank. History
Taiwan Cooperative Bank Was Formerly Known As The Taiwan Industrial Association. It Was Founded In 1923 During The Japanese Occupation Of Taiwan And Is Composed Of More Than 290 Cooperatives Across Taiwan. In 1942, It Was Reorganized Into The Taiwan Industrial Cooperative Federation. In 1944, Due To The Pacific War, It Was Reorganized Again And Divided Into Two Institutions, The Taiwan Industrial Treasury And The Taiwan Agricultural Association. The Taiwan Industrial Treasury Was Dedicated To The Financial Industry.
At The End Of World War II In 1945, The Government Of The Republic Of China Took Over Taiwan On Behalf Of The Allied Forces. On October 5, 1946, The Taiwan Industrial Treasury Was Reorganized Into The Taiwan Provincial Cooperative Treasury, Which Was A Special Operation Financial Institution Group (without Bank Status). It Did Not Obtain Legal Personality Until 1985. On January 1, 2001, The Taiwan Cooperative Bank Was Restructured Into Taiwan Cooperative Bank Co., Ltd., In Line With The Financial Reform (financial Reform) Policy Of The Chen Shui-bian Government. In November 2004, Taiwan Cooperative Bank Was Officially Listed On The Taiwan Stock Exchange.
On May 1, 2006, Taiwan Cooperative Bank Merged With Farmers Bank Of China, Which Is Also A Public Bank, With Taiwan Cooperative Bank As The Surviving Bank. Farmers Bank Of China Was Eliminated Due To The Merger. Taiwan Cooperative Bank Was Renamed Taiwan Cooperative Commercial Bank Co., Ltd. At Present, Taiwan Cooperative Bank Is The Financial Institution Group With The Largest Number Of Branches At Home And Abroad In The Republic Of China (301 In Total), And Its Total Assets Rank Is Second Only To Bank Of Taiwan.
On December 1, 2011, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Taiwan Cooperative Asset Management And Taiwan Cooperative Bills Finance Jointly Established Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holding Co., Ltd., Under The Jurisdiction Of Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Insurance, Securities, Coupons, Investment Trusts And Other Companies.
